Is there a such thing as preventing obesity? In my opinion, there is only “One ” way to truly lose weight no matter where you start. If losing weight is what you need, then listen up. Most people that need to lose weight try to do so by trying to use a magic sprinkle in their food or take some magic pill. Are you kidding me?
You may or may not be obese today. Either way, we are all equal and the only difference is the decisions we make daily that separate us apart and determine where we end up. Guess what? It’s never too late or too early for preventing obesity and set yourself up to make a decision to make better choices today for a better tomorrow.
Someone once asked me, “What makes you think that if you’re too lazy to exercise, you can actually keep it off after you lose it?” It made me think. At that time, I was overweight and tipping the scales at almost 200 lbs at 5’7″. Not a good proportion especially when it wasn’t healthy weight. What he was trying to tell me was that it’s not about losing the weight, it’s about losing the mind of thinking that got me where I was. Overweight, prone to diseases, tired, depressed, you get the point. It’s all the things you get when you neglect preventing obesity.
According to the National Weight Control Registry, 80% of those people who lose weight eventually gain it back. Only 20% actually keep it off for a period of longer than several months. What is the difference? Teaching yourself the right way of living in the process. That is, proper nutrition and eating habits, exercising to gain strength and burn calories, and have a team to support you, like me and my team of goal minded individuals committed to helping people make that change.
Preventing Obesity First With Realization
A person must learn how to properly take care of their bodies and change their eating habits in the process of losing weight. In addition, exercise is a must! An hour a day is recommended no matter if it is walking, running, or climbing mountains, or swimming. You need to do some sort of exercise to get yourself burning calories.
In preventing obesity, you can remember one thing that will make all the difference. Calories! The very thing that makes you gain weight. Most people eat more calories than they think and then never take the initiative to live an active lifestyle. Salads are one of the foods that can look healthy but contain over 700 calories in one serving. I was watching the show “Extreme Makeover” the weight loss edition a month ago and this lady was on there that was obese. With the help of Chris, the personal Trainer on that show, she lost over 170 pounds and went from obese at over 300 lbs, to losing over half her total weight and living a brand new life.
In this particular night of Extreme Makeover, they showed her eating habits and showed that she actually was sometimes eating up to 4,000 calories in one meal. That meal consisted of a cake, a salad containing over 1,000 calories itself, and some meats and carbs. It was disgusting but she had no idea what she was eating. On top of that, she was a couch potato and didn’t take the initiative to go out and burn calories through exercise. First step in preventing obesity is recognizing what got you there or what is currently getting you there.
Imagine taking in that many calories, and being a lazy bum. It is a recipe for death!
I am here to tell you that if you can change your eating habits and make exercise at least one hour a day part of your life, you too can have a brand new life. So, back to how to lose weight when you are obese. We went over how changing your eating habits and exercising are vital. So what are some other things that can help one make that change.
Here are a few things that you can do in preventing obesity:
Park in the rear of the parking lot and make that walk to the front door of the mall or grocery store. Stop being lazy!
Get your rear off the couch and go walking.
Stop watching that television. TV makes you lazy to get up and do the things you should be doing
When eating your meal, eat your favorite things on the plate first so you don’t have to be forced to get to it last when everything else is gone.
Stop looking for someone to do things for you. Get up and do it yourself.
Start believing that you were meant to be better and healthier.
Believe it is possible to be healthy and strong and live a longer life for you and your loved ones.
Realize the road that you are taking is a dead end road
Make your family part of your reason to change. They are the one’s that will suffer, not you, if something happens to you.
Know that most diseases that come with obesity can be avoided and/or healed if you act now.
Everything worth fighting for in life must come with a reason. That includes preventing obesity. If you don’t have a reason, how can you make a plan, without a plan, how can you hit your goals, and if you don’t hit your goals, how can you ever achieve your dreams? It all starts with setting an important “WHY”. Mine was to live longer for my family and get off the dead end road I was on. Guess what? I got off of it and you can too.
Why do you want to lose weight?
To live longer for your family
To qualify for your dream job
To be able to do more life things on a daily basis
To wear the clothes you really want to wear
To feel more confident in public or in pictures
Whatever your reason is, it’s worth it to make changes to your diet and daily activity. You need someone to take you from day 1 and show you the way. You also need to make a promise to the people who mean the most to you in life and let them know what you are doing. Keep them updated every week on your progress, let them know that you won’t let them down. If you find that your gym equipment is no longer serving your goals, consider selling gym equipment online.
Why do this? This will keep you accountable. You won’t want to let these people down. Yes, times will get tough and you will feel like quitting sometimes. This is when they will rally behind you and you will start to see people believing in you for the first time in years. Trust me, this is what happened to me and it kept me focused on my goals. My Recommended Steps to Preventing Obesity
Here are my 3 recommended steps that will get you on the right track to preventing further obesity.
1. Detox Your Body To prime it up for optimal nutrition and exercise
2. Strengthen your joints and mental focus by taking on a light exercise program. This will get your feet wet and get your body ready for the next level to burn fat.
3. Step it up and continue your fitness with a mix of higher intensity resistance and cardio training plus keeping the proper nutrition in place. To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your exercise equipment, consider looking for cross trainer repair near me.
You will need continued support and a positive community of people around you to make it through. Listen to music and watch movies that will feed you strength and not garbage. Don’t listen to the negative comments around you because they just don’t want you to succeed and prove them wrong.

When I started doing P90x last year, i was the kinda guy who just put on some shorts and put in the DVD. I’m not the type of guy who takes a long time to prepare to look good to do something I’m gonna sweat and look worked after doing. So I work out barefoot most of the time.
I know that working out barefoot is never recommended in gyms because of the use of heavy weights in the area and the liability issues that arise, but is it okay to do if you are working out at home with only minimal resistance bands and pull up bars are needed?
Listen to your body!
When I did martial arts, we used to warm up barefoot because shoes weren’t allowed on the mats. We did lateral movement warm ups for wrestling and also rolling warm ups like hip escapes, and sprawls to name a few. This experience has gotten me used to working out barefoot.
However, one thing that does matter when I work out barefoot is that my calves get worked more than when I have shoes on. This happens to a lot of people I know. So when doing exercises like Insanity, I will actually where shoes due to the intense jumps and lateral movements involved. They are a little more intense than the average workout so I want to protect myself to the fullest and prevent injury.
When doing exercises involving the resistance bands in the P90X program, I will actually keep a pair of sandals close by for when I need to trap the bands under my foot for pulling. If you tried to trap resistance bands under bare feet, you will notice some pinching so that’s why I slip on a fast pair of sandals for that particular situation. Call it weird but everyone has their own preference and mine is being as loose as possible without jeopardizing results.
During my transformation video below, you can see that I wore shoes sometimes and sometimes worked out barefoot.
My point is is that you can workout barefoot for certain routines but sometimes you may need to where shoes for safety purposes and to prevent injury like I do with Insanity. Insanity’s lateral exercises are far more intense than a standard side to side so you want to make sure your ankle and everything are prepared for what’s to come.
So working out barefoot in my opinion is okay but there are times when preference and ignorance must be disciplined for lifetime fitness to endure in your life.

As many of you know, I was attending an event this past weekend in Las Vegas called Coach Summit. It was for Beachbody Coaches that commit their lives to helping people live healthy and fulfilling lives.
If you didn’t already know, I actually live here in Las Vegas but had the opportunity to stay in the hotel, New York New York for the event with my brothers, and my other fellow coaches. Although we were there to learn, discover new programs that were coming out soon, and find out the newest flavor of the none other than Shakeology that was introduced on the 25th of June 2012, we also had the opportunity to bond as a team.
Coach Summit went on for about 3 days, and I must say, Beachbody doesn’t hold back when it comes to entertaining and educating their coaches. They had all the pro trainers there such as Tony Horton(P90X), Shaun T(Insanity, Insanity Asylum), Les Mills Pump Trainers, Sagi Kalev(Body Beast) and more! Not only were they there to meet and mingle with but they also held their own private workouts, spoke about business, motivation, tips, and what’s to come.
On Saturday Morning, June 23rd, around 6 a.m., there were 5,000 coaches that packed the streets of Las Vegas around Tropicana Hotel and Casino to workout with all the trainers for 20 minutes per trainer. This was called the “Super Workout”! Each of them led us into a variety of exercises that complimented their style. By the end, I couldn’t imagine feeling better around so many people at one time that shared the same vision of being healthy, getting fit, and helping the world do the same. Beachbody also had gatherings to cap off the days where you could snack on appetizers and sip on some cocktails by the pool at the MGM Grand. It was held at the MGM’s Wet Republic pool area. They had human mermaids in the pool, a live DJ, dancing, and a lot of people meeting each other for the first time beyond their Facebook profiles. As a Beachbody coach, you have many people on your team that live in other parts of the nation and it was nice to finally see someone in person and experience their real personalities.

Seeing Apolo Ohno as part of approving and helping Beachbody come up with the best programs today just inspires me. To me, if credible pro athletes are behind the programs that a company is putting out, I want a piece of that!
But I can honestly say that even though it was for 3 days only, I really missed my wife and kids. I can’t spend that much time away from them like that or I get a little weak and quiet after some time. My family empowers me I guess you can say.

Tough Mudder, also known as the “Toughest Event On The Planet” is a more than a race in the various terrains, but also a mind test.
If you haven’t had the opportunity to participate in this challenging obstacle, perhaps it’s because you haven’t heard about it, don’t think you can handle it, or purely just have no interest in putting yourself through this 10-12 mile obstacle race designed by British Special Forces.
Before you judge the Tough Mudder, it’s important to know the facts. As stated on their website itself, here they are:

Fact Number 3: You Cannot Take A Tough Mudder Course Alone

Yes, it is a length to think about at first. Running 10 to 12 miles isn’t an easy thing to finish, let alone given that you have to climb 12 foot walls, run through 10,000 volts of electricity and crawl through mud under some barb wire just to name a few. But let’s forget what the main core of Tough Mudder was designed for team work even when fatigue sets in.
Leaving no team mate behind is what Tough Mudder stressed very clearly and you must help your fellow soldier to make it through to the end. No matter if you are tired yourself, you must find a way to carry your struggling team members with you. Tough Mudder encourages you to show team work and camaraderie both on and off the course.
To make sure that everyone is in the right state of mind for the race, participants are required to recite the Tough Mudder Pledge before starting.
So this is not for someone who just has the interest of running for a half marathon straight. It’s for a person willing to test their all around ability, strength, endurance, and mental capacity. Unlike the long distance running I did growing up, Tough Mudder will leave you wet, muddy all around, & accomplished as a team.
Recommended Equipment Needed For Tough Mudder
To make the best out of your Tough Mudder experience, there are some things that you may want to consider taking with you.
Light full finger gloves if you have sensitive hands
Dry Fit material clothing
No Cotton wear
Compression shorts and shirt under your race attire to prevent mud entering certain places if you know what I mean
Waterproof camera like the GoPro Hero2 Outdoor Edition for proof of your race and video making for memorable experience that lasts a lifetime
On the other hand, it’s recommended to leave all your jewelery at home or in the car to prevent losing your valuables.
Staying Hydrated Through Tough Mudder
They have water stations approximately every 3 miles to keep you hydrated and sane. There are also times when they will have bananas as well to replenish some calories and carbs for energy. You can bring a waist pack or as some call it a fanny pack around your waist to carry some protein bars and such with you.
There are times during the race where you will probably start cramping up so you will want to keep your body fed with the right ingredients to help prevent this setback. This is where the GoBelt, or fanny pack will come in need so you can take things with you.
Who Shouldn’t Do Tough Mudder
This endurance race is for all fitness levels. Wait! But you said…… Yes, the reason I say it is for all fitness levels is because you can take all day to complete the course and do it for fun and not for time. You will be racing with beginners to elite athletes but the only difference is how you choose to run the race. This is where athletic levels are determined. So if you want to just stroll all day and take your time, by all means, you can.
However, if you are the type who doesn’t like to get dirty, doesn’t like to have fun, and enjoy the success of you and others, then it’s probably best for you to stay home. Tough Mudder is for having fun, testing your all around abilities, but more than anything, camaraderie.
Tough Mudder will actually make it fun by meeting you at the finish line with a celebration of live music, a beer if you desire to cheers with your mates afterwards, and many team laughs and much video taping and photos to brag to your friends about accomplishing this major feat.

I did my entire first round of P90X with a set of 10’s, 15’s. and 20lb dumbbells in addition to resistance bands and that got it done for me. I would recommend the Bowflex SelectTech Dumbbells if you are wanting to use weights instead of resistance bands. I got these recently and I love them. Now that I ‘m in the position that my body demands more weights, the Select Tech Dumbbells really make it easy for me to switch weights with a click in between short sets.
P90X Blog: How P90X changed my life…for good
Just like any other transformation story, I started out a little rough. I was full of doubts and too lazy to change my old ways. As a matter of fact, my family first tried P90X before me and as I saw them reap healthy rewards in the process, I also started to feel bad about myself.

much space and it’s cost is much lower than buying each individual dumbbell which runs on average of $1 per pound. My first round of P90X all I got was a set of 10’s, 15’s and 20’s for dumbells. In addition, I got the resistance bands in which I think works excellent for the shoulder workouts.
Aside from the P90X equipment mentioned above, there are also optional items that can contribute largely to P90X success. Some of them are the following:
P90X Results & Recovery Drink and Whey protein for building more muscles and replenishing energy after each workout.
Yoga mat and 2 Yoga blocks for extra stability and protection during extreme yoga poses. In my opinion, this is the least needed of all the equipment if you are financially strapped. You can do without the blocks if needed to save some money.
Heart rate monitor to fine-tune your performance and push-up bars to protect your wrist from possible wrist injury.

Often times we get so caught up in our habitual eating habits that we forget what is included in some of the food we eat that increase the food dangers in our communities.
